A "presidential" easter weekend

One seldom gets the chance to meet a lot of Presidents in a lifetime. In fact I only got a glimpse of then Pres. Fidel Ramos during his visit to IRRI. Anyway I finally got to meet and shake hands with one here in PNG, Prime Minister Michael Somare himself. Not only did he oblige to pose with us, I even got to exchange pleasantries with him. What a way to cap off the weekend spent in one of the most luxurious resort hotels in PNG, the Madang Resort Hotel.

The hotel also had a Japanese restaurant!! The chef however is a local trained by a Japanese chef. Save for the ambience there was nothing really spectacular about the menu. The tempura was oily, the teppanyaki, oilier. Arrgh, I had to suck a lemon just to get rid of the oily sensation in my mouth. With me is Noel Armada, one of the DOM's at FAO-PNG and a former Monbusho scholar like me.

Meet two of my Taiwanese friends from the Taiwan Technical Mission. On the extreme left is George, the oyaji and on the extreme right is Alec. Also with me is Ate Nona, a Filipina working as chief accountant of Madang Resort and Noel wearing his "ukay" finds.
